Today we ran a bunch of errands, which thoroughly exhausted me. But we finally bought a queen-sized mattress, which is exciting! So now our Solstice gift to ourselves is complete. We're debating what to do with the two twin beds that currently comprise our "king" bed. It'd be nice if we could sell them to someone, but I'm not sure how sellable they actually are. They're not anything like new, although they are in spectacular shape...definitely not something that should just be tossed. But I really don't want to store two twin mattresses and box springs. Does Goodwill take mattresses? Any suggestions?

We made a totally delicious dinner tonight. A parmesan-cheese risotto, with green beans, and then a salad that was super delicious. It was sprouts and chives, with snow peas, celery, and a pear sliced up into really thin strips, with a sesame-ginger dressing. So freaking good. Yay, vegetables (and fruit)!

To-Do list for tomorrow:

1. call about bed frame delivery (well, their automated phone thing kept cutting out, but I emailed, at least).
2. call gas company about budget plan
3. look at data from weak def study, reply to natalie's email
4. write up course proposal for writing teaching job, start preparing CV/etc (doesn't hurt to be prepared, though Mike has consistently put talking to him about it off until "later")
5. do the finishing for Andrew's sweater

I was thinking of trying to walk to the library tomorrow to get the book they actually do have, but after seeing the sidewalks in our neighborhood today...I have a feeling that would not end well. I've never been great at walking on ice, but my balance is about 100x worse now than it was even a few years ago, so it'd be stupid. I have plenty to read, both for fun and for research purposes, here at home already, anyway.

God, I'm tired. Why am I not in bed?

You can almost definitely sell the mattresses or freecycle them. Just say you've had them, you've slept in them for X years, and you're willing to part with them for $cheap.

I don't think Goodwill will take them.

when i moved from austin, i remember that goodwill would not take my mattress because of health concerns, but told me a place that would recycle them.

I stumbled onto your comment to Rosidee today. Your LJ name made me immediately curious.

I am a Rochester, NY native who has been living in Germany for 10 years, now in Nuremberg. My father is a UR Alum. Do you know Pat Herminghouse.

My LJ alter ego is "welten."

zigeunerweisen! Have read on my son's site that you are in Rochester and studying German at the UR. Have several of his books I'd love to donate to your cause, if you can use them. Various dictionaries, some French/German and some books. Would be happy to drop them off on your porch. Know that you live on Benton Street, but don't know the number. Can be reached at etw40@aol.com.
